Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It takes the holistic approach rather than just focusing on the individual aspects of an injury or illness.
As a Physiotherapist, I commonly treat back and neck pain, headaches, nerve pain, joint and muscle aches/pains, arthritis and soft tissue strains/sprains.
An initial consultation is a session where I can find out about your injury and past medical history – from this I can develop a unique plan for you, using different treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function and prevent disability. During this session and any follow ups you will be taught how to prevent or manage your condition, so you can achieve lifelong health benefits.
I may use manual therapy – using my hands to mobilise soft tissues and joints, relieving pain and stiffness, and encouraging normal movement. Exercises may be recommended to improve general health, mobility and strength. General advice on posture at work or rest, correct lifting or carrying techniques to help prevent injury and aggravation of conditions. Acupuncture may be used in conjunction with traditional physiotherapy techniques.
I grew up in Penzance and qualified from The Middlesex School of Physiotherapy (London) in 1984. I returned to Cornwall when I met my husband and have worked extensively in Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal physiotherapy since the late 1980’s – within private practice since 2006. I love the daily challenge of finding a reason for pain and stiffness, and working out a way to restore the person to good health.
